How long do you keep my physical mail?

Your physical mail is securely stored for 14 days free of charge. After that, a daily fee of 5¢ per mail item will apply.

When Freedom Mailbox® receives your mail, it gets scanned in, assigned to your account and securely stored as we wait for your direction on what to do with your mail. Physical storage starts when your mail gets scanned in and assigned to your account and ends when it gets removed by either recycling it, shredding it or forwarding it.

For all mail items received, you ultimately must choose to either recycle it, shred it or forward it in order to remove it from physical storage. Any mail in your Inbox or Pending folder exist in physical storage. All your Inbox mail items need you to request an action and all Pending mail items are pending processing by Freedom Mailbox® staff.

Open & Scanned Mail

Often overlooked, mail that was previously requested opened and scanned still remains in physical storage. Once mail is opened and scanned it must either be discarded (shred or recycle) or forwarded.

Follow the steps below to make sure you don't have any opened and scanned mail items in storage:

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Start by logging into your account.
  2. On the top menu, click Mail
  3. On the left side menu, click Completed
  4. Select any mail items that show "Scan Completed" to the left of the mail image thumbnail.
  5. On the page menu at top, select Actions
  6. Select either Forward, Recycle or Shred
